This policy outlines our approach to purchasing new physical items, such as filming equipment, production gear, office supplies, and other related items. Our priority is to minimise the environmental impact of our operations by emphasising the purchase of second-hand items whenever possible and ensuring that new purchases are as environmentally friendly as possible.

Policy Details:

1. Priority on Second-Hand Purchases: Restless Stories prioritises the purchase of second-hand items over new items for all equipment, gear, and supplies required for our operations.
2. Mandatory Search for Second-Hand Items: Before considering the purchase of a new item, employees are required to make a reasonable effort to find the desired item second-hand. This includes searching for the item on at least three reputable websites or platforms that specialise in second-hand sales.
3. Documentation of Second-Hand Searches: Employees must maintain a record of their efforts to find the item second-hand, as outlined in the previous policy.
4. Environmentally Friendly Purchases: When purchasing new items, Restless Stories is committed to selecting products that are as environmentally friendly as possible. This includes, but is not limited to, considering the following criteria:
5. Reduction of Plastics: Preference should be given to products with minimal or no plastic components or packaging.
6. Renewable Energy Usage: Suppliers and manufacturers within our supply chain should prioritise the use of renewable energy sources in production and transportation.
7. Recycled Materials: Products with a high presence of recycled materials should be favoured whenever feasible. However the use of recycled plastics should be avoided where there is a natural textile alternative.
8. Energy Efficiency: Where applicable, we will choose items that are energy-efficient and promote energy conservation.
9. Sustainability Certifications: Products with recognised sustainability certifications (e.g., Energy Star, Fair Trade, Forest Stewardship Council) should be considered whenever possible.
10. Supervisory Approval: Where relevant, department heads or supervisors will review and evaluate the environmental criteria for new purchases. They will ensure that the selected items align with our commitment to environmentally friendly practices and sustainable sourcing.
11. Sustainability Reporting: Restless Stories will maintain records of new purchases and their environmental attributes. This information will be used for sustainability reporting and tracking progress toward our environmental goals.

All employees are expected to adhere to this policy when making purchasing decisions on behalf of Restless Stories. Failure to comply with this policy may result in corrective action.
